Haddi Movie review: This needs more meat on the bone - hdkat

Haddi Movie Rating:  4/10 ⭐

Hadi's story: A ruthless transgender woman continues her journey to take revenge on  those who ruined her life. But she's full of dark secrets and runs a shady business that could break her cover before her mission is complete.

Haddi Review: Just casting talented actors to play deep and dark characters with  dramatic changes doesn't guarantee a compelling story. 'Hadi' is a stark reminder of a film that deals with disturbing subject matter and relies heavily on the acting of its protagonists and antagonists, but lags behind in narrative depth.

Nawazuddin Siddiqi plays an evil transgender named Hadi who steals corpses from  funeral processions for commercial reasons. But she also works with a feared mafia dealing in meat trade, extortion, and many other crimes. The evil boss of this gang is  Pramod Ahrawat (Anurag Kashyap), a politician who will go to great lengths to get what he wants. What are Hadi's ultimate motives and what are the consequences of his actions, that's at the heart of this different story.

The synopsis for Hadi on IMDB  reads, "Is this move ambitious or driven for revenge?" It's a confusing story. First, it is never desirable. Especially in the first half, although there are many detours, it is basically a revenge play. To keep Hadi's personality and motivations a mystery, the random, disjointed narrative confuses the audience  and deprives them of any further interest in what the characters are up to. As the second half kicks off, there's something of a sort of consistency, and director and co-writer Akshat Ajay Sharma manages to spark curiosity about what happens next. But the main problem here is that the characterization lacks convincing, and the story is incoherent and untouchable. The chemistry between Hadi and her boyfriend Jogi (Mohd Zeeshan Ayyoub) does not go well. They are good actors, but neither Nawazuddin nor Mohud. Zeeshan can fit the required intensity into the equation. Nawazuddin evokes fear, hatred, and sympathy for the character. In some places, his transformation says more than his actions. Anurag Kashyap's villainy is impressive, but we've seen him  in movies before. Ira Arun is well cast for the role of adorable Amma. The film is consistently dark in tone and fits its story well. One song on the soundtrack, "Beparda" (composed by Rohan Gokale), stands out.  There was potential for a gripping thriller and an emotional drama here. The film had the opportunity to bring the struggles of the LGBTQ community to life. But for “Haddi” to really shine, the creators had to refine its essential elements even more clearly.
