65 Movie Review

Story: 65 million years 65 is a science fiction story about a pilot and a little girl trapped on earth. Now they must do whatever it takes to survive in this unknown landscape filled with bloodthirsty prehistoric creatures and a rapidly approaching asteroid.
Review: Hollywood is obsessed with disaster movies where the end of the world is coming or a cruel animal is forced to fight against people through no fault of their own. 65 has a similar plot, except that plot is based about 65 million years ago, when humans had not yet discovered the Earth. They spoke English but lived on another planet. So when Mills (Adam Driver) crashes to Earth, he quickly finds his feet and his soul, only to be challenged by the mighty dinosaurs that rule the planet. He finds himself stuck with a little girl, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), who needs to be sent back to her home planet. To make matters worse, he doesn't speak her language and keeps reminding her of his own daughter, who is no longer alive.
Plot-wise, '65' doesn't offer much other than the fact that it takes place 65 million years ago and that humans are actually aliens from another planet. But it's just as hard to swallow that the protagonist of
(the ironically named Adam) is the first person on Earth who dresses like a modern-day teenager, speaks fluent English and fought mammoths alone with
. any special powers. It's actually a far-fetched idea that seems to have been made for this larger-than-life visual spectacle without much thought.
seems to put so much effort into making it look believable (and a lot of it does) that maybe the makers never thought it was important to make it look convincing either.
Apart from a few shaky spots, the special effects are quite good and the cinematography (Salvatore Totino) is impressive. This is the only asset that makes the script tolerable, which is mostly bland and completely boring. The pace of the film is too slow for the story being told, and the moments between the only two characters on screen (Mills and Koa) are lackluster. It needed
an emotionally moving story and consistently action-packed execution. Adam Miller and Ariana Greenblatt give completely passable performances that also come from the breathlessness of the script.
The film is strongest when the dinosaurs act, kill and die. But then again, this isn't "Jurassic Park." No dino-horror comes close to what Steven Spielberg gave us in 1990's
. "65" is billed as the ultimate survival saga from a long time ago, but surviving this incredible thriller literally felt like a million years.
