Story: While filming a movie in Bhopal, popular star Vijay Kumar urgently needs to get his driver's license to complete the filming on time. However, a misunderstanding with car inspector Om Prakash causes some feud between the two. Vijay's ardent fans turn their backs on their enemies and insist that the protagonist must be legally licensed like any other citizen, which can take up to a month. However, Vijay has to leave for the US within a week. Does he put his driver's license in his bag before taking off?
Review: Small town traffic cop Om Prakash Agarwal (Emran Hashmi) getting a driver's license with megastar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) seems like overkill? Maybe. But the punchline and performance of the 2019 Malayalam film Driver's License remake can overlook a weak premise. He lives up to Akshay's fame in a movie called Don't Angry Me, mentioning the numerous projects he works on each year and is credited as a producer actor. But the role of superfan-turned-nemesis Emran is equally notable. He plays his part firmly, even in heroic deeds, because he maintains the behavior of a bourgeois and humble man. director Raj Mehta deftly handles the first half of the film, keeping it fun and airy, peppered with hilarious one-liners that the actors effortlessly deliver. However, the second half, which revolves around a duel between the two heroes, is less humorous. This excursion also explores the trial media phenomenon and the #BoycottBollywood movement. But the depiction of the incident, loudly reported in the electronic media, has become increasingly repetitive and banal in our films. Singh and Meghna Malik as star-struck entrepreneur Kamla Tiwari are less than impressive. Abhimanyu is hilarious as Vijay's former roommate who is now spouting chilling lines for shady movies and commercials. However, after a few examples, his parts feel forced. Social media influencer Kusha Kapila makes a cameo appearance as a tarot card reader. But Meghna stands out, especially for her impeccable comical timing in the scene with Akshay. Diana Penty as Vijay's girlfriend Naina doesn't have much of a role to play here, but whatever she can do, she's played well by a stylish and supportive wife. Her Nushrratt Bharuccha, who is well versed in the comedy genre, pulls off the role of Minty, who is the better half of Bhopali's young lady and her Om Prakash.
The redux of "Main Khiladi" by Anu Mailik and Tanishk Bagchi is dance-worthy, and Lijo George-DJ Cheta's title her track and her Vikram Montrose's "Sher" are a blast.
Overall, the Selfiee is a nimble watch with good performance and some laugh-out-loud moments. If you're looking for some nerve-wracking comedy for the weekend, this might be a good choice.
