Renfield Movie Review: Nicolas Cage Sinks Teeth In This Blood And Gore Tale

Renfield movie Rating:  7/10 ⭐

Story: A vampire and evil Dracula's loyal servant  must believe in  the power of his innate goodness and self-love in order to defy his master. But his salvation comes at a price.

Review: Fountains of blood gushing from human bodies, arms torn off and used as weapons, villains attacked with bone-crushing ferocity, and bloodthirsty ready to sink their teeth into human flesh. Monster - Welcome to the dark world of Count Dracula (Nicolas Cage). He personifies evil and has the power to manipulate and destroy people physically and mentally. One of his victims is Renfield (Nicholas Hoult). But after a  chance encounter with  honest police officer Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina), who is nursing an old wound, he wants to run away. Together, they're ready for some real trouble and a lot of violence. The movie's best feature is its bold and uniquely stylish action scenes. Imagine a fountain of blood gushing out of a person, or a blow that breaks every bone in the body. It's "John Wick" level  action choreography interspersed with smart, intelligent use of special effects. It's so real and worth watching on the big screen.  However, the script (by Ryan Ridley) is inconsistent and the shift in tone between dark and comedic elements can be off-putting at times. This is mostly because the comedy is barely funny. The film's short running time is a plus because it keeps the pacing tight and prevents the story from getting too long. The director, Chris McKay, made sure that the action was delivered at regular intervals and character development in between. Allow adequate space for Cage's performance, who seems to really enjoy playing a menacing character, is a highlight. His make-up tends to undermine his character's intended menace, so it may have been a little less stand-up. Awkwafina looks a little out of place in her charming avatar of a police officer on duty, brandishing only a service revolver in the face of mass destruction. I'm hoping to  get rid of the excess weight first before getting rid of  the . Overall, the script and  climax are predictable but satisfying. But in the end, the only thing that sticks out is the fresh, maniacal approach to  classic vampire stories.
