Gadar 2 movie review: Sunny Deol is solid, but Gadar 2 lacks direction

STORYLINE: Decades after rescuing his wife Sakena (Amisha Patel) from Pakistan, one-man army truck driver Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) adopts his son (Utkarsh Sharma) as a slave to Pakistani general Hamid. - Must cross the border illegally again to save from Iqbal's wrath  (Manish Wadwa). The latter holds a grudge against what Tara  did in 1947.  

Review: Twenty-two years after Gadal: Ek Prem Katha sparked a  box office tsunami, Anil Sharma has devised a sequel that seeks to recreate the atmosphere of wartime astonishing patriotism and familial love. did. It is even  a powerful argument against secularism. "Hindustan Musalmanon Ka Hai, Kristen Ka Hai, Sihon Ka Hai, Hindustanyon Ka Hai" 

 What this movie lacks is a solid premise. In the first film, the atmosphere created by the loss of life and the brutal consequences of the division moved audiences. The borderline love and survival story stuck straight to my heart because, despite the provocative dialogue, it had a solid emotional core. The sequel struggles to sway emotions. Gadar 2 tries to capitalize on elements of nostalgia, cinematic dialogue, and slow-motion action scenes without having a story or purpose to tie it all together. Sakena's father Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri) is no more. Tara Singh finds a new nemesis in the form of Pakistani general Hamid Iqbal,  who mercilessly beheads those who have shown loyalty to the Koran to the Bhagavad Gita. With India's involvement in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) threatening war (1971), Iqbal seeks revenge for the situation and his past. He captures and tortures Tara's son, who crosses the border in search of his father. This causes Tara to repeat what he did in the past, this time  for his son. His love trajectory with his son Muskaan (Simrat Kaul) in Pakistan  feels utterly irrelevant and unnecessary. This sequel feels like an over-the-top remake with a twisty plot that spans over 2 hours and 45 minutes.  The saving elements of this film are the music and Sunny Deol. Mithun's rendition of Uttam Singh's beautiful song 'Wood Jah Kare Kaava', sung again by Udit Narayan, is the highlight of the film. It evokes more emotion and nostalgia than the entire movie combined. Sunny Duru is lovable and sincere. Its overwhelming presence and sophisticated lines continue to have an influence even today. Tara wants his son Charanjeet (Utkarsh Sharma) to get an education so  he doesn't become a truck driver himself. His care and love for children is genuine. And of course, for fans of the original, there's the iconic hand pump scene in this one too. Amisha Patel has nothing to do but tearfully wait for the men of her life to come  home. Utkarsh Sharma has some key scenes and he's great, but he lacks the screen presence  this action drama needs. It's not that Gadar 2 is bad, it just features a lot of characters who don't have enough depth to evoke desired emotions or hold your attention for long periods of time. For fans of Sunny Drew, the actor brings back his star power and signature roar that is hard to miss in the film.
