Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 Movie Review: Cruise Secures Another Worthy Movie Blockbuster

Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Movie Rating: 8/10 ⭐

Story: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team are tasked with retrieving a chaotic weapon before it falls into the wrong hands.

Flashback: A rogue AI  threatens to destroy the world as we know it, and the key is the coveted asset Ethan Hunt and his IMF must find. That's the key to McGuffin's predictive action, but audiences aren't watching Mission Impossible movies for compelling stories. Since Ghost Protocol (2011), Tom Cruise has been  an actor and entertainer on a mission to surpass himself  in every performance using daring stunts. Dead Reckoning Part 1 is no exception, with the trailer touting Cruz riding his bike off a cliff. Of course, this seems to be the crux of the film, which looks great on the big screen, but there's so much more to the action within its roughly three-hour run time. The script's pacing is a bit exaggerated, but the film is engaging, especially at the climax.  Once again, Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie's constant need to push their  boundaries makes for an ever more exciting scene. Combined with the  iconic themes of the series, it is able to draw the audience in. Additionally, this storyline raises the bar for Ethan and his team, including Benji (Simon Pegg), Luthor (Ving Rhames), and Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson). Hayley Atwell shines as Grace and is a charming actor who blends beautifully with Cruise's Ethan, both dramatic and comedic. In fact, this might be his funniest MI movie in the series. The star of the show is, of course, Tom Cruise, whose run is impressive despite his advanced age. Dedicated to doing most of his stunts really brings the fight choreography to life, and the movie does a lot better in that regard. It's getting harder and harder to separate the two in this year of adrenaline-pumping action flicks, but Cruise certainly stands out from the rest. The fact that the series still breathes enough  without feeling too tired after seven movies speaks to Cruise and McCurry's passion for action blockbusters.
