Story: The Kerala Story centers on the story of Shalini, who was kidnapped and then converted to Islam, and tells the story of three young girls from different parts of Kerala. Shalini then becomes radical. He was forced to join ISIS as a terrorist.
Review: The Kerala Story follows the radicalization of young Hindu women in the state of Kerala, who converted to Islam and were then forced to join ISIS. The film states that it is a true story of her three young girls from different parts of Kerala. The Kerala story begins in the interrogation room, where Shalini (Ada Sharma) reveals details about her own horrific and tragic past and why she is in such a critical situation. Her backstory revolves around four college students who enroll in a nursing school in Kazargauda, Kerala. Her story is told from the perspective of Shalini, who has developed a deep bond with her roommates Gitanjali (Siddhi Idnani), Nima (Yogeeta Bihani) and Asifa (Sonia Bharani). What the others don't know is that Asifa has secret intentions of exposing her roommate and converting her to Islam. With the help of her external male colleagues, she ensures that the girls are radicalized and religiously instilled with psychedelics. When Shalini becomes pregnant, she is forced to marry a man other than the one who impregnated her, and she embarks on her long journey to Syria via Pakistan, Afghanistan. Adha Sharma's portrayal of Shalini, who was eventually renamed Fatima, is powerful and emotional. You can clearly see her trying hard to get her Malay accent right on screen. Many of the actors like Yogita Bihani, Sonia Bharani and Siddhi Idnani are newcomers, but they are doing their best to bring their stories to life. Director Sudipto Sen has chosen a sensitive and complex subject and the treatment given to the film makes it a difficult film with some disturbing scenes, moments and dialogues. In the film, the director managed to create moments that evoke a natural sense of unease in the viewer. Sometimes it's hard to find a balance when dealing with sensitive issues, but Sudipto seems to handle it just fine. Prasantanu Mohaputra brilliantly captured scenes in Afghanistan and the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region. However, the movie's background music is inadequate. It's overwhelming and distracting from the story. While the hostel scenes with the girls are well acted out, there are some dull and uninteresting moments in the film, especially when Asifa attempts to brainwash and radicalize Shalini. A very disturbing rape scene in an ISIS slave camp deserves your attention. In some ways, the film looks more like a radicalization tutorial than entertainment for the audience. It can also be very disturbing to viewers from different communities in our country, as they take extreme actions to make their point understood. After watching The Story of Kerala, you may have some questions about the current state of the country. This thought-provoking film is disturbing and certainly able to leave an impression.
