Azam 2023 Movie Review: This Jimmy Sheargill starring has an interesting plot. I wish I could focus more

Azam Movie Rating: 6.5/10 ⭐+

Story: Set in the seedy Mumbai underworld, Azam breaks out in the Mumbai underworld after undisputed mafia don Nawab Khan's final days with cancer. It revolves around power struggles.

Review: Aazam is packed with weapons, villains, and daring exploits. With its insane plot, this crime drama reveals a side of the Mumbai underworld that has long since ceased to exist in an industry that is often fascinated by Mumbai mafia tales. This crime drama isn't a traditional cop vs. gangster tale, it tackles internal affairs and explores one man's relentless quest to control the Mumbai underworld at all costs. With clinical precision reminiscent of chess moves, he launches the carnage and systematically eliminates his opponents. The 'Azam' is not an entirely fun ride, with a few misdirections, but it proves to be an interesting sight to behold. The film revolves around Nawab Khan (Raza Murad), Mumbai's unparalleled mafia don, who is currently on his deathbed. After an important meeting between the Home Minister and Nawab Khan's close entourage, a decision is made for Anya Shetty (Vivek Gamande) to succeed Nawab Khan's post. Nawab Khan's son Kadar Patan (Abhimanyu Singh) and his loyal confidant Javed (Jimmy Sheirgil) hear of this development and immediately take action. Working together, they come up with a well-thought-out plan to take down the conference participants individually. The perilous road ahead is full of treachery, deceit and betrayal,  and one fateful night puts your life at risk. Aazam brings together an incredible collective of industry talent, many of whom have achieved significant results. Played by Jimmy Sheagill, Javed is characterized by his ruthless demeanor and calculated approach, revealing a previously unseen side of him. In a role that requires an unwavering presence, his performance exudes credibility. Abhimanyu Singh has made an impression in spite of his occasional appearances in films with  limited run times. Indraneel Sen Gupta brings a raw and dark essence to the character of IPS officer Ajay Joshi. But the film's true protagonist is writer Shravan Tiwari, who ventures into uncharted territory in underworld stories. Unfortunately, I cannot say that his leadership has the same level of excellence. In some cases, it looks weak and lacks the expected subtlety. Azam presents a new story that reveals a new side of Mumbai's underworld, but its failure lies in its lack of wise direction. If  the camera had stayed a little longer after the decisive moment, it would have left a deeper impression. The movie is full of suspense but fails to really engage the audience. The film also wants stronger art direction. Scenes recorded using chroma effects are distracting and detract from the overall experience. What's more, it's baffling why filmmakers are so passionate about deafening soundscapes. These overwhelming audio elements dulled the intended impact, and may have learned a lesson from Satya that the reverberation of  gunshots with no background music dominated most of the sequence. This filmmaker deserves her credit for pushing the conventional boundaries and presenting a story that deviates from the typical mafia narrative. He offers a fresh and engaging experience. The film contains some well-crafted sequences that maintain  steady dynamics. However, it would benefit from some tightening of direction. Essentially, Azam is a film in which writer Shravan Tiwari dominates over director Shravan Tiwari and dominates the overall production.
