Jogira Sala La La Movie Rating: 6/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
STORY: A staunchly against marriage wedding planner gets into trouble by tricking a fierce young girl into pulling her out of an arranged marriage.
Review: A small town, an independent cheeky girl, and a family full of quirky characters. Jogira Sala La La has all the ingredients to make a daily situation comedy. And it all begins when talented marriage planner Jogi (Nawazuddin Siddiki) meets the feisty and racy Dimple (Neha Sharma). She stormed the gates of a wedding party organized by Jogi and after a few clicks grabbed the microphone to give a very critical but honest review of the pathetic catering at the wedding. Of course, it culminates in a great song and dance, but unlike your standard Bollywood movie, there is no love at first sight here. In fact, director Kushan Nandi and screenwriter Ghalib Asad Bopalli ensure that nothing is too ordinary, as the lead couple are flawed but genuine characters. They take advantage of this to create conflict, confusion and chaos, which works very well in the first half. On top of that, Jogi's quirky and open family just can't get enough of anything they do. From his mother (Zalina Wahab) to his sisters, they're all ungrateful assholes, but you can tell there's a deep thread of love that binds them together as a family. Their love-hate equation makes for a fun watch. Dimple's family isn't all that dramatic, except for his father. The father, despite his age, never diminishes in his wit or charm, offering advice he doesn't want or interfering when he doesn't need to. All of this makes for good comedy moments and organic humor. However, as the second half progresses, the script becomes somewhat drab and unnecessarily complicated. With predictable peaks ahead, creators feel like they've run out of new ideas. Nawazuddin is good as usual, but we're used to seeing him as a powerful and totally unconventional character, so it takes a little getting used to seeing him play a normal guy next to him. Neha Sharma looks great and masters his role with ease. However, it would have helped if she had a little more depth in how she wrote her character. Mahakshai Chakraborty makes a surprise appearance as the completely pushy, low-key groom-to-be Larul. There is no shortage of talented character artists here. Sanjay Mishra does his best to play small and insignificant roles. Zarina Wahab and the other women really stand out as stubborn women in strong patriarchal families. The small-town settings featured in many movies are nothing new anymore, but I still love watching them. There are all sorts of clichés, but there is inherent goodness in the simplicity and harmlessness of these characters. Movie soundtracks are forgettable. Overall, Jogira Sala La La doesn't give viewers big news, but it manages to keep them entertained with some genuinely fun moments.
