Review: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) blew everyone away with its massive success and raised expectations for a compelling sequel. It's no exaggeration to say that Across the Spider-Verse is at the top of it all. However, this is a deeper, more mature, and complex sequel. The dynamics of the Morales family continue to be important to the story, with Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) playing a more prominent role this time around. Shameik Moore presents a more mature version of Miles Morales who constantly faces the escalating consequences of his actions. Hailee Steinfeld's voice adds depth to Gwen Stacy's well-deserved backstory. Still, the opening act feels a bit complicated, mostly because of its tempo and initial impact. After a somewhat protracted start, the film's plot gradually takes shape, firing all the slingshots and rewarding those character strokes abundantly. Among the amazing cast of Spider-People old and new, Spiderpunk (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya) and Pavitru Prabhakar (voiced by Karan Soni) are unforgettable. The latter is more notable not only for its desi vibe but also because the story calls for it. Oscar Isaac's bellicose interpretation of Miguel O'Hara brings a level of melancholy rarely seen in mainstream animated films, and Jason Schwartzman's sly subtlety puts the spot far above "villain of the week" status. pushed to a position superior to The visual side of this film is amazing as the animators and artists continue to push the boundaries of the medium. So much storytelling and visual art, so much to digest, it's impossible to understand it all at once. But Easter eggs and surprises never sacrifice the overall story or make it fan-favorite. This sequel sets the stage for an important third part, which plunges us into a much deeper, more layered story and promises to be rewarding.
