The Flash Movie Review: Delivers Against All Expectations

Flash Movie Rating: 8/10 ⭐

Story:  Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) discovers he can time travel to the past and tries to save his family from a later fate. However, his actions have consequences for which he himself is ill-prepared.

Review:  The Flash fans have been waiting for years for his story, Flashpoint His Paradox, to hit the big screen. This critically acclaimed story has sparked many multiverse-based stories involved in the DC Super Hero series. The film was originally intended to have a similar impact, but behind-the-scenes developments have changed much more  than Barry Allen expected. These circumstances affect the outcome, but director Andy Muschietti focuses the action on a to-the-point emotional arc. Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) must work with her younger self to give this version  his powers. The actor convincingly plays his two different versions of the character, both with different mannerisms. The scenes involving them are hilarious yet heartwarming, and  the film as a whole is riddled with jokes, even the absurd ones. It's based on a balanced drama, especially with an aging Barry and his mother Nora (Maribel Verdu) supporting the story as  chaos unfolds. Michael Keaton made meaningful contributions beyond his relationship with fans, with prominent roles as Bruce Wayne in the 1989 and 1992 films. Also, it's satisfying to see his Batman do things that weren't possible with film technology at the time. Sasha Kull does a daunting task of luring us into the new Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Musetti also provides compelling insight into the film's plot with the camerawork that follows each sequence, providing a significant sense of direction and scale. The Flash's weakest element, however, is its seemingly crude CGI. Aside from the scenes involving the two Barries, important plot elements require extensive visual effects, but look out of place. This shows that the story has undergone multiple changes without giving us much time to edit this important element. Either way, there are plenty of Cloud-pleasing moments  for fans old and new. The fate of these characters remains unknown as the studio embarks on a seemingly new path. If The Flash was to conclude his DCEU for the past decade or so, it certainly is, thanks to Muschietti's distinctive tone and direction.
