Story: Avinash wants to quit his marketing job at a major tobacco company, but there are consequences.
Review: Dhoomam, a thriller based on the evils of the tobacco industry, feels at least a decade behind its time in its subject matter and storytelling. Although it is noble to hit people with a good message and have fun at the same time, there seem to be more threatening things in society like environmental damage or communalism or even drugs. Smoking doesn't seem like the hot topic it once was when John Grisham's The Runaway Jury came out in 1996. Fahadh Faasil plays Avinash, a smooth-talking marketing man who leads campaign after successful tobacco campaign. a company led by Sid and played by Roshan Mathew. After opening with a poorly edited scene where army interrogators interrogate a beaten up Chinese spy in some bunker-like location, the film moves into suspense mode, with Aparna Balamurali testing Avinash and a woman, getting into a life-threatening situation. they drive home one evening. Even as Avinash begins to tell his wife Divya that he is quitting his job, their car is attacked and they end up on a deserted hillside the next morning. Avinash has approximately 24 hours to collect the ransom and do his "captor's" bidding before they can return to their normal lives. Through flashbacks, it is said that Avinash wanted to quit because the company's executives, which include Sid's uncle, essayed by Vineeth, do not care about the effects of cigarettes on people's health. only profit matters and they want to expand their market targeting young people. This leads to a life threatening situation for Avinash and Divya. Pawan Kumar is an award-winning Kannada writer-director, so expectations are high as he joins one of the best acting talents in Malayalam. But the script of Dhoomam is disappointing and too long at about 150 minutes, it feels like something from the 90s and the actors can't lift it.
