Sergeant Movie Review: RANDEEP hooda excels in this murder mystery

Sergeant Review Rating: 6/10 ⭐

Story: Sergeant revolves around Nikhil Sharma, a dedicated and morally upright cop who bravely takes on the task of solving a case that not only hurts him physically  but also has a huge impact on his career.

Review: Written and directed by Prawaal Raman, The Sergeant is a mystical drama that immediately immerses the audience in a world of suspense and intrigue. The film follows the protagonist Nikhil Sharma's (Randeep Hooda) tireless search for truth even after his leg is amputated, which forces him to work behind a desk instead of a field. Raman cleverly manages to create an immersive atmosphere for the audience within 106 minutes. While the concept is well thought out and the performers are great, it lacks the mystery drama. The script is slow, but the tension builds gradually, maintaining the tension throughout the film. On the other hand, the conclusion seems rushed, as everything is wrapped up in the last few minutes.

The subplot of Nikhil's ongoing enmity with his father (Arun Govil), whom he blames for his mother's death, and Inspector Haider Ali (Adil Hussain), whom he blames for attaining his position despite his poor physical condition, becomes tiresome after a while

Randeep Hooda simply excels in the film and his commanding screen presence adds dimension to his character Sergeant Nikhil. He effortlessly conveys Nikhil's anger and emotional pain after losing his mother and his leg in an accident. However, Hooda's use of a foreign accent feels fake and is disappointingly used too often.

The supporting cast, including Arun Govil as Nikhil's father, Adil Hussain as Inspector Haider Ali and Sapna Pabbi as Nikhil's love interest Monica, give commendable performances, each bringing their own flavors to the plot.

The locations of the film in London are effectively captured by the cinematography of Jim Edgar, especially in  the alleys of the city. State-of-the-art production design adds authenticity to the drama and  meaningful songs like "Thak Gaye Kadam" add to the story and increase its impact.

In conclusion, despite the execution flaws, Randeep Hooda's excellent performance and engaging story makes Sergeant an interesting viewing experience.
