One Friday Night REVIEW: FRIDAY NIGHT DUD: WHERE THE FUCK IS?

One Friday Night Movie Rating: 5/10 ⭐

Story: Ram Varma, a C-level executive of a leading company, has an extramarital affair with Nirosha, a much younger woman. One day while hanging out at his secluded villa, Ram meets with an unexpected accident. In a dire situation, Nirosha decides to contact Ram's wife Lata.

Review: Despite its short 90-minute running time, One Friday Night will be begging for it to end. This movie becomes boring due to its uninspired plot and has no redeeming qualities. The  potential of the film can be seen in its promising premises but unfortunately the execution fails and leaves the viewer away from the  events. Despite its attempts, the film fails to conjure up genuine dramatic moments or sustain a compelling narrative. Director Manish Gupta's decision to avoid melodrama and Bollywood clichés is commendable, but the film ultimately suffers from a lack of exciting and dramatic moments. With more complex storytelling and a tighter script, One Friday Night could have been an engaging thriller, but as it stands, it leaves a lot to be desired.

The story centers around Ram Varma (Milind Soman), a C-level executive of a top company who is involved in an affair with a dancer named Nirosha (Vidhi Chitalia). Under the guise of a trip to Nagpur, Ram takes Nirosha to his remote villa. However, things take a dark turn when Ram is injured in a freak accident, rendering him unconscious. Left with no other option on a rainy night, Nirosha contacts Ram's wife Lata (Raveena Tandon), a gynecologist who rushes to the villa to provide medical care to her husband. The villa becomes a battlefield for the wife and the lover, who both justify their position. When Lata leaves the villa considering a mutual divorce, an unexpected twist occurs that changes the course of events. The constant  downpour makes a great backdrop for the gripping drama, but Manish Gupta's film fails to make the most of it. Despite  all the necessary ingredients, the film never becomes intense. Moreover, one wonders why Raveena Tandon did not lend her voice to the film. During  Milind Soman's character's accident, a significant amount of screen time is spent on Nirosha, who shuttles back and forth between the accident site and  the house to no significant effect. The isolated villa and the rainy night may have been important characters in the story, but they are far from the plot and do not intersect with the main elements of the story. Raveena Tandon's performance as Lata is commendable for her sincere performance, while Milind Soman's acting is satisfactory. However, Vidhi Chitalia, who played a powerful role as Nirosha, did not fully bring out the myriad shades that the character could be tainted, leaving the potential unfulfilled. The brilliance  seen in Manish Gupta's earlier works like Rahasya and Section 375 seems to be lacking in his latest offering. Unfortunately, One Friday Night turns out to be a pretty dull watch overall.
