Minus 31: Nagpur Files Movie Review: Slow and simplistic yet tense crime drama

Minus 31 The Nagpur Files Movie Rating: 6/10

Story: The film follows a female police officer solving a high-profile murder case in Nagpur during COVID-19 lockdown. The investigation involves a missing girl and a politician who doesn't want the case solved. Will the police be able to solve the mystery?

Review: Director Pratik Moitlo creates an edgy and painstaking crime drama set against the backdrop of a dire COVID-19 lockdown environment and medical crisis. Hot young  police officer Preksha Sharma (Rucha Inamdar) investigates the murder of  well-connected businessman Dayanand Pande (Rajesh Sharma). The case is riddled with obstacles, including an uncooperative family, politicians who obstruct the investigation, and  Preksha Meshram (Nisha Dar), a missing girl aspiring hip-hop star who is a key figure in the case. . While trying to unravel her mystery, Preksha has to deal with the tantrums of her disgruntled father, Anupam Sharma (Raghubil Yadav). Written by Moitro, Charlata Maitra and Ankit Bupthani, this story is not a true crime thriller. However, it is a rather multifaceted view, showing the enthusiastic young people of the middle class and strained family relationships, while the elderly fail to consider the perspectives, ambitions and needs of the next generation. Preksha Sharma and Preksha Meshram have a similar background. There is no mother  at home and they are bullied by the men who raised them. There is also a forensic scientist Gautam Agarwal (Sivankit Singh Palihar), who became an alcoholic due to disagreements with his parents. Whether it's the dark alleys of the slums, the dingy tannery, the  personal lives of the characters, corruption in the midst of the greatest humanitarian crisis, or the aftermath of the murder itself, the atmosphere is tense from start to finish. And it's all in contrast to hip-hop culture, which the lower classes of society rely on to express their fear. Lucha Inamdal is a strong police officer, an obedient daughter, and a young woman who wants to enrich her life. The similarities between her and her missing rapper are an interesting perspective. Sivankit Singh Palihar and Rajesh Sharma have also established themselves as actors, but Ragbir Yadav has made a name for himself playing a poignant, mutilated ex-cop. Her scenes with Lucha are worth mentioning, especially when she confronts him about making her own life difficult. Written by Baya and Yash Sahai of Hip-Hop and Udayan Dharmadhikari (who  also composed the background music), the film's soundtrack is impressive and fits the  look and feel of the film well. Minus 31: The Nagpur Files is not  a thrilling movie and may be slow-paced, but it's worth checking out if you like dark and quirky crime novels.
